shrink size of load source disk unit

Please add ability to shrink load source when using disk unit migration.

We often face the problem when we migrate IBM i systems with internal disk units to external attached disks that the internal disk units are way to large.

Use Case:

e.g. a system with 8 internal disk units each ~ 250 GB in size is migrated to external storage.
In order to follow best practices we want to have more disk arms and use ~ 16 x 125 GB disk units (or even smaller disk units but more of them).
Currently this would be only possible when using 250 GB load source and all other disks could be smaller in size. But this is not following best practices either.

It would be fine to use STRASPBAL to remove all possible data from load source before running the disk unit replacement procedure from manual IPL/DST if needed.

    Hello IBM_Systems_Developer,

Being a big fan of the GUI Navigator for i I wonder if this functionality is also available under "Disk Management" of Nav4i?

Can you please help me there?

    Greetings Rudi.

Does this support satisfy the requirement?

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed.

This is an important RFE because disk imbalance can lead to performance problems.
It can act as a inhibitor to people moving to external storage and virtualized environments.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
