This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

No additional justification or interest received, so declining.
We have considered this request and are leaning towards declining for a couple reasons.
The GENLICKEY command is part of the SM1 product which, although it refreshes with IBM i, it is not being actively updated. The preferred method for building products is to use the Software Product APIs:
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_74/apis/sw1.htm
In this case, it would be the QLZAGENK API.
Whether using the GENLICKEY command or QLZAGENK API, the better practice is to have the password stored somewhere securely and to have a program or script retrieve it for key generation purposes.
We welcome any additional thoughts on the matter. Given the age of this RFE, we'll keep it open until the end of March. If there is no further justification by then, we'll decline it.
