Generated PDF files in PDF/A format Merged

When customers needs to store different electronic business documents as PDF for long term archiving it is important that the PDF files are of type PDF/A (version 1.4 or higher). Currently can only PDF version 1.3 be created with native IBM i solutions.

Use Case:

When a spool file is saved and stored via ACS and when a spool file is copied using CPYSPLF … TOFILE(*TOSTMF) … WSCST(*PDF) the PDF is created as a PDF file with version 1.3

For long term archiving of PDF files, version 1.4 (Type A) or higher is recommended.

<<< Corrected Comment >>> While this RFE also mentions PDF versions, as well as the PDF format, we consider this to be a duplicate of RFE 121246.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. Staying current with PDF formats is critical. Later versions have newer features that companies would like to use.

Staying current with IBM i is essential; staying current within that software version within that version is also critical.  For IBM i to be part of clients a long term archiving solution, to the ability to create PDF files as type PDF/A is a must.

    Rudi,

As current as possible is normally the best. From a business perspective is a version that support PDF/A the most important thing.

    Hello Mats,

As staying current with IBM i is important, staying current within that software version within that version is also important. I found an Adobe document dated 2001 which tells about what the changes are between those version. In the RFE you suggest that a higher version then 1.4 is also fine. So I wonder if you have any idea if a higher version is better or the current highest?
In this link I learned that in 2011 version 1.7 saw the light: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Portable_Document_Format_(PDF)
What do you think version 1.4 or 1.7?

    Greetings Rudi
