PDF/A urgently needed!!

We really urgently need the possibility to create PDF/A documents as defined in ISO standard, because of our huge PDF archive (3500 PDF files daily). If we want to to store PDF documents in archive for 10 years(10y x 270 days x 3500 PDFs), we must use the PDF/A standard for PDF documents.

Use Case:

we use InfoPrint for PDF creation, it is ok, we have small PDF documents, national specific chars are ok, but the PDF does not conform the PDF/A ISO standard and this is problem from information security and also from law point of view (documents are tax documents, invoices and packing lists). The same situation is when transformation services are used, there is no possibility to choose which type of PDF file the software should generate.

If you aggregate all the PDF/A request for enhancements since the years, it must be one of the most important thing to build inside the system!

Please include it in the next tech refresh.

Or create a new "infoprint2++" product with all the next print features and license it with a paying contract if this means to accelerate the feature, we don't care, as long it is supported by the base OS in the long term, but a business focused machine should be able to produce such file (with even support for PADES, CADES signatures in the future...).

.Thank you for asking about the status for this IBM Idea. Adding the PDF/A support is complex, but we are actively working on an implementation. We will post again when it is closer to being made available. Note, however, that IBM's plans may change, so we cannot guarantee delivery.

    Still no news?

    This is urgent/high priority requirement.

Even more important given that now Infoprint is included as a free product in all IBMi OS base 7.5 license and thus a tool that will be used by all.

.PDF/A support will be added to the list of enhancements to be considered a high priority for the next update of Infoprint Server.

.Several different versions and levels of the PDF/A standard currently exist.
o PDF/A-1a: ISO 19005-1, Level A Conformance, is fully compliant with the ISO 19005-1 Standard.
o PDF/A-1b: ISO 19005-1. Level B Conformance, this category is considered to be the minimal compliance level for PDF/A.
    o PDF/A-2: ISO 32000-1.
o PDF/A-3: ISO 32000-1 with support for embedded files.

Please comment if you require a specific version of PDF/A, and whether it is needed for the IP1 (Infoprint Server) or TS1 (Transform Services) product.

My current assumption is that PDF/A-1a support not needed, if a later version or level is supported. Also, PDF/A-3 support may not be required, as we have no interface to specify an external file to embed with a document. If we support PDF/A-2, is there any need to support either of the PDF/A-1 levels?

    Your input is appreciated.

    Rgds.....Terry

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. It is very important to keep up with the ISO standards.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

For more information about CAAC, see www.common.org/caac

IBM recognizes this as a beneficial enhancement. We will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.
