Action description for own spooled file actions made by QIBM_QSP_SPLF_LSTACT exit point

The QIBM_QSP_SPLF_LSTACT exit point for creating user defined spooled file actions is a very nice feature that we use extensively and want to use even more in the future. But, there should be the possibility to show the descriptions of the user defined actions in the various panels. Otherwise users do not remember the various actions. They could be shown by pressing F23=More actions. Of course there must be also the possibility to define the description for each user defined action.

Use Case:

- Create the new spooled file action
- Create the description for the spooled file action
- On the various display panels press F23 to show the user defined actions

.We discussed your request with the owner of our internal IBM i User Interface Standards. She is strongly opposed to us using a Function key for this purpose, for several reasons. While the F23, typically reserved for "More options", is a fairly close fit, it does not meet the standards and would create a significant issue if we need to add a new system option that did not fit on the initial screen.

We would like to suggest an alternate approach that may meet your requirement. We post message CPD6A82 at the bottom of our spooled file displays whenever a user types in an unsupported option. You could change the CPD6A82 message description to add a list of your custom options and their definition in the recovery text. Then instruct users to type in an unsupported option, such as 'H' for "Help", then use F1 to display the entire message text to get the list of valid options.

We are delighted that you are making use of this exit point to customize spooled file actions. We recognize the usefulness of making descriptions of these new functions available to your users. We will need to investigate possible ways do to this.
