This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

The existing export/import of preferences in Eclipse is inadequate for Rational Developer for Power Systems Software features. Currently with the product, when you import in a PRF file, you get little to no customizations duplicated from the existing workspace you exported from. A feature that would work would include exporting LPEX colors, fonts, keyboard bindings, profile details, connection information, parser settings, etc.
These can be manually moved from one workspace to another but there should be an option for these AND they need to be selectable. The current selections have no usable effect on RDp.
Currently, the only way to do this is to manually move the .pref files from the org.ecliipse.core.runtime/.settings and the profile file(s).
This needs to be a feature that can be used with this product - not just RAD or Eclipse.
Go to File/Import/Export and select General/Preferences and then select Export All.
Even Export All does not capture the useful features for RDp as stated above in the Description.

This feature was delivered in version 9.1.1.
The feature that is described in this request is a candidate for a future release.
It took me almost an hour to find all of my preferences from RDp 8.5 to RDi 9.0 and get them set to where I like it. I would love to be able to quickly restore those settings. Also would like to be able to share my settings with my co-worker who is just getting started with RDI.
One use for this is when a developer switches from SEU to RDi. The experienced RDi user could export her filters, compile commands and user key actions for the new RDi user to import. New RDi users are already overwhelmed by the vast array of choices. Being able to set up their environment without tediously navigating the GUI would be a tremendous help.
This RFE and 10286 (http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=10286) seem to address very similar needs. It would be great if there could be a single place to selectively migrate the editor and other preferences as this RFE requests and filters, libraries, commands, etc. as 10286 does.
Given the number of times the answer to a problem is "try creating a new workspace," I agree that this is a much-needed functionality.
This RFE will be under consideration for a future release. Status has been updated to Uncommitted Candidate.
This RFE is consistent with our strategy and product roadmap and IBM is continuing to evaluate.
