Pipenv for IBM i

Pipenv is a tool that aims to bring the best of all packaging worlds (bundler, composer, npm, cargo, yarn, etc.) to the Python world.

It merges pip (which you support) and virtualenv (which it seams you currently don't), together to work in unison, and is one of the recommended (PyPA) ways of controlling application development.

Use Case:

When developing application software using python, pipenv enables easy dependency control and distribution (replacing requirements.txt with the up and coming Pipfile/Pipfile.lock).

Since it is quickly becoming a standard tool in most python developers toolkit, I think one should be able to use it on the i as well.

.With just a couple minor defects, pipenv is now working on IBM i. Please open an issue or collaborate with the IBM community for any problems you run into

A lot of time has gone by since this RFE was submitted, and I think a discussion on Poetry vs. Pipenv is appropriate.
Poetry seams to have a large following now, but on brief examination, the ecosystem around pipenv still seams in front.

The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at
