This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Thanks for the suggestion - this is done in PowerVC 1.4.2.1
Thanks for clarification, we will consider this for future release.
Hello
i know that i can (manually) replace the HMC by another one...but as i said...manually...i want to define dual managed HMC so that PowerVC will auotmatically try to access the first HMC but if it doesnt work e.g. for HMC Maintenance or HMC outage etc. to fall automatically !!!! to the 2nd HMC without manual intervention.
the reason why is that we have multiple update per year per HMC in SW and/or HW so we need this automation feature please.
makes my description things a bit clearer ?
Thanks
Vince
Hi Vince, Greeting!
PowerVC allows you to change the HMC that is managing a host or group of hosts in the event of an HMC failure. The HMC must already be managing the hosts before you can change to that HMC in PowerVC.
This is supported from PowerVC 1.2.3 (2016), Can you please check and lets us know if this is not working for you? If it does not work, please open the PMR to get the issues addressed. OR Let me know in case you are asking for a different or new scenario to be supported here with Dual HMC.
Please refer below link and blog explaining how redundant HMC works in PowerVC
