PowerVC - Customize the LPAR name, LUN's names and Storage Zoning names.

We have PowerVC setup to do storage provisioning and the PowerVC created LPAR, LUN's and Zoning names are currently not set as per our company standards.

We face a similar problem under PMR 02477,999,754. Our naming convention is requiring the host names to be exactly 14 characters long, and those are used as display names when the virtual machine is provisioned using PowerVC. The domain name is 13 characters, hence the FQDN is 28 characters in total. However PowerVC is truncating the display name to 13 characters before adding the two groups of random characters to form the LPar name.

    Display name: xxxxxxxxxxx001
    LPar name: xxxxxxxxxxx00-yyyyyyyy-zzzzzzzz

As result one cannot tell xxxxxxxxxxx001 from xxxxxxxxxxx002 on the HMC because both are truncated to the same 13 characters before the first dash.

Naming conventions are often a discussed, my client has a similar remark/request.
To provides ability to adapt PowerVC objects naming to customer naming conventions, a more generic approach would be a PowerVC-wide naming config menu using predefined variables (like %hostname%).

Thanks for the suggestion. When using automated deployment models like PowerVC, choosing names can be difficult to ensure uniqueness across a number of different resources. We will consider this as a future enhancement.
