IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

ACS - Run SQL Scripts - Allow for viewing of column data type and column comments in results window

When you run a select * from table command in Run SQL Scripts it will output the raw data and columns.

Many more advanced SQL editors show you the following additional data:

1. Column data type (both by hovering over column) and below the column (user selectable).

2. Show you the fields with a key icon if it is the primary key.

3. Allow you to right click a row to generate the INSERT or UPDATE statement. When no primary key exists (such as a DDS table) it will prompt you to select the primary key for UPDATE SQL generations.

4. Show column text below column name so you know what the cryptic 10 character field name is showing.

5. Show both the 10 character column name as well as the longer column names.

6. CLicking columns should resort the data in asc/desc order within the data viewer

7. Double clicking a row, should go into edit mode, and allow you to change data on the fly (very useful DBeaver functionality).

Use Case:

More agile database development can be obtained. Most folks have to use other tools to get similar functionality.

Products such as Microsoft SQL Server, utilizing SQL Server management studio have much more robust features that I am describing.

If you are looking for a quick implementation win, take a look at the DBeaver source code, as it does most of these requests.

Thank you for submitting your Request For Enhancement. Some of the requested enhancements are already available. Individual RFEs should be submitted for specific requests so they can be evaluated and voted separately.
