This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

We are testing out using the IFS to store source files for RPG apps on the i, as opposed to using file objects. This works well but for CRTSRVPGM, you are forced to specify a file object and member for the export source file. We use custom export source files often when creating service programs.
If one could specify an IFS path instead of the SRCFILE and SRCMBR parameters, it would allow central storage of an entire service program project in the IFS.
It would also align the command with the CRTBNDRPG, CRTRPGMOD and CRTSQLRPGI commands in offering the IFS option.
When creating the following service program with all source contained in the IFS:
Name: FUNCLIB1
Library: USERLIB
Module: USERLIB/MYMOD1
Export Source File: \home\source\funclib1\funclib1.bnd
The following command could be used:
CRTSRVPGM SRVPGM(USERLIB/FUNCLIB1)
MODULE(USERLIB/MYMOD1)
EXPSTMF('\home\source\funclib1\funclib1.bnd')
This would avoid the need to create a source member on the system, copy the contents from the IFS to the source member, and compile using the source member, each time a change was made.
