This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

There are several ways to control which version of Java is being used:
1. Set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to the root path of where Java is installed. Then launch ACS.
2. Launch ACS using the command line and specify the path to a version of Java using the -vm parameter. The following example assumes a version of Java exists at C:\JDKVersion\jdk8_191_64:
Start_Programs\Windows_x86-64\acslaunch_win-64.exe -vm C:\JDKVersion\jdk8_191_64
3. Provide a JRE along side the acslaunch*.exe. For additional information on this option see section "Optional JRE deployment" in the article "IBM i Access Client Solutions: Customization and deployment made easy" available at https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/ibmi/library/i-ibmi-access-client-solutions-customization-trs/index.html
You can copy a JRE into a the ACS directory, in a subdirectory named named jre, and the native executable will use that.
Then the whole ACS functionality is portable and isn't dependent on any user installed java software.
I agree. Either ACS should use the latest most package installed, or we should be given the option to configure this. Even though a config file would be better than nothing.
