New SQL table function to return Journal Receiver Information

Currently there is no way, except programmatically via calling the QjoRetrieveJournalInformation API and specifying KEY=1, to retrieve a list of journal receivers and information about them. Providing a SQL Table Function, or other SQL object, to provide this information would make accessing this information easier.

The DSPJRN command does not allow you to route the output for DETAIL(*RCVDIR) to an output file.

It may be useful to "join" the output from the QjoRetrieveJournalInformation API to the output from the QjoRtvJrnReceiverInformation API so that detailed analysis on journal receivers could be performed.

Use Case:

Ability to retrieve statistical information on journal receivers for capacity planning etc. Ability to view frequency of journal receivers being attached, size, number of entries, status etc. would assist with this.

IBM believes that the request described has been solved and is available with IBM i 7.5, and with DB PTF Groups IBM i 7.4 SF99704 Level 20 and IBM i 7.3 SF99703 Level 28.

A new view, QSYS2.JOURNAL_RECEIVER_INFO has been provided to return this information.

IBM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it.

After reviewing the request and JOURNAL_INFO I realize it is a new feature. I've added this to the SQL Tools product and it is available today. Don't know why the VIEW doesn't provide it but at least customers can access it now using the JOURNAL_ENTRIES() UDTF.

Is this request different from the existing QSYS2.JOURNAL_INFO VIEW?
Is Key 1 (Receiver Info) not represented in this existing SQL Services View?
    Thanks.
