COBOL compiler option STDINZ required be enhanced to initialize variables

COBOL compiler option STDINZ required to be enhanced to initialize variables based on the data type.

E.g. Numeric fields to be initialize with Zeros, Character fields to be initialized with Blanks etc.

This is to avoid initialization issues of the variables defined in the COBOL program.

IBM will use this Idea as input to planning, but no commitment is made or implied. This Idea will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this Idea.

The current ILE COBOL compiler initialization option STDINZ only initializes data items at the 01 and 77 level. A data structure which will start with an 01 level variable name and then have data items under it at lower level numbers (eg 05, 10,...) where the lower level data items may be a mix of data types including numeric data types (eg PIC 9 USAGE BINARY, PIC 9 USAGE PACKED-DECIMAL etc) and character data types (eg PIC X, PIC N, etc) will initialized at the level 01 item level as blanks (x'40's) for the entire structure.

If this request is implemented, it will likely be in the form of a new compiler option.

To the original poster: In light of https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.5?topic=ssw_ibm_i_75/cl/crtcblpgm.html#CRTCBLPGM.GENOPT I do not understand your request. Does not the system already do precisely what you are requesting?
