Autosave Run SQL Scripts

A feature of some code editors (i.e. VSCode, SublimeText3) is the ability to restart the app and have it retain unsaved files and/or editor windows (code that is in an editor window but hasn't yet been saved to a file).

This is a nice feature for scenarios where you need to restart an app or have a hard crash.

Use Case:

Yesterday I had roughly 10 separate ACS windows open and was authoring some complicated SQL Stored Procedures. I took a Visual Explain option from the menu and that locked up ACS. I waited over 12 hours for it to unlock but it didn't. I had to force end ACS and I lost my work (my fault for not saving).

Would have been great if ACS behind the scenes saved all open editors and brought them back to the same state (i.e. re-open the various windows/editors) when ACS is restarted.

Thank you for submitting your Request For Enhancement. We understand the value of this RFE, but higher priority items have taken precedence. We are keeping this on our list for consideration in the near future.

I was going to create this RFE if it wasn't already created.
This is a feature I would benefit from daily. I somewhat work around this by saving files with the current date to a temp folder.
It would be great to include multiple tabs and make this work similar to Notepad++.
This is one of the best features of Notepad++ to be able to create new temporary tabs and have them auto save and reappear the next time I open up Notepad++.
I would mimic how they implemented this:
Closing Run SQL Scriipts would automatically save all the temporary tabs and then reopen them when starting the application.
But if I explicitly close a tab it asks if I want to save it.
This functionality is awesome. Please consider it.

IBM understands this request and will consider it for a future code update, though no commitment is made or implied.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. We believe this should be part of the product because a predictable recovery environment should exist wherever possible.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to address.

This is a useful feature to add to the tool, whilst it does not add function, it adds resilience and therefore might speed up adoption. With the autosave option built into Run SQL Scripts, it would add functionality if it was combined with this the options "undo" and "redo".

    Hello,

With the auto save option build into Run SQL Scripts it would be a waste of the effort not to combine this with the option "undo" and "redo". So you have the option to reverse your last change or put it back in.

    Greetings Rudi.

I see saved .SQL files when I look at "recent" sessions - they have generated names, and I have to open them to see just what the contents are. The last session is not obviously identified.

But does this fill the bill here?

IBM has received this requirement and is evaluating it. A response will be provided when evaluation is complete.

At the very least, it would be nice if there was some regular save similar to Rational Developer.

It seems unfair to expect a GUI to work as well as a green screen app. . ;-)

    A great idea!
In addition that's the behavior of STRSQL for years ;)
