The += method in RPG to increment a numeric field does not show up as an (M) in the outline view for the variable.

The += method in RPG to increment a numeric field does not show up as an (M) in the outline view for the variable.

We've noticed in the Outline view, that if you use the newer method of using the += symbol in RPGLE to increment a numeric field, that the field will not show as being modified at that statement number. But if you use the older method of, for example 'FIELD1 = FIELD1 + 1;' then the Outline view does show that as being modified at that statement #.

Use Case:

developer wants to see where a variable is incremented using +=.
outline view does not show the variable has being modified .. (M).
outline view not accurate in this situation.
