Include I_BASE_01 USB stick with All POWER9 systems

When a customer needs to recover their system, they need to do a "D" mode IPL. Without having the I_BASE_01 USB stick available might cause recovery delays.

Use Case:

All machines should continue to ship with a no charge I_BASE_01 DVD or a USB with the code on it.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed. IBM currently provides the capability to download images from ESS that can be loaded to USB media. After evaluation of the cost and complexity of maintaining and shipping USB media with every order, it was decided that this request does not align with the strategy for future investment in this product.

IBM is currently sizing this and will review the proposal with the advisory councils.

IBM has modified some of the information in this request. Please contact us if you have any questions. In particular, the Source was changed from "None" to "COMMON", and the Headline and Description were changed to say "USB stick" rather than "DVD" since Submitter says that newer Power Systems do not have internal DVD drives.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. When a machine is down and you are trying to recover, this is higher than high priority. IBM should ship a USB stick free of charge because the average user would not plan ahead to be ready for this situation. (DVD is perhaps less acceptable these days since there is no internal DVD drive on POWER9.) Making it worse, on a POWER7 you could have had an internal tape to use, but with POWER8 or POWER9, if you don't have an HMC, you can't tag the I/O to use the tape drive.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
