Release reservation made on tape drive with a D-M IPL

When a D M IPL is done to start an IBM i lpar from tape and the system is powered down again from within SST (before anything is installed), the reservation made on the tape drive does not get released. In order to be able to use the same drive to start another lpar the tape library will have to be rebooted.
Request is to have to code changed to release the reservation during the powerdown process.

Use Case:

Subsequent installation of multiple new IBM i lpars using the same tape drive.

A solution for this RFE will be delivered in a future release. It is too complex to PTF back to existing releases. The change is on the D mode power down to release the load source tape device.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM not implement this request. If this scenario operates the same as a Virtual Optical Drive, one just needs to put it into the checklist for this scenario to just vary it off.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

A D-mode IPL is started using the tape drive as an alternate IPL-device. Instead of performing the install, the system is stopped again; this is done by going from DST into SST and perform the normal stop of the system. At that point, system is still in manual mode.

We need more information. It says the scenario is after it is powered down, but we don't understand if this is an interactive powerdown initiated from the user, or if this is the auto-powerdown restart after an IPL. This scenario does not state if this is in manual mode or normal mode. It mentions a powerdown from SST, but that would indicate a normal mode. We need to completely understand the scenario.
