IBM i Access for Windows - Change reply message on failed log in Merged

For security reasons we want to modify the prompt, which
IBM i Client Access for Windows will return when the user enters a wrong login credentials.

We are using IBM i Access for Windows version 7.1.0.SI57907

Scenario-1: If you enter a wrong user ID, client access for windows will
return the following message: "User XXXX on system YYYY does not exist.
Do you want to provide a different user ID now?"

Scenario-2: If you enter a correct user ID, but a wrong password,
client access for windows will return the following message:
"Password for user XXXX on system YYYY is not correct. Do you want to provide a different password now?"

The return messages in both scenarios give a hint as to, which part of
the login failed. According to Raiffeisen Bank's security requirements
this is as security risk and must be changed.

Use Case:

The return messages in both scenarios give a hint as to, which part of
the login failed. According to Raiffeisen Bank's security requirements
this is as security risk and must be changed.

This is an example of an acceptable to the customer return message:
"Sign-on information is not correct."

When we make these types of changes to base OS objects, we add the changes to a program, ex.- OSUPGRADE. This runs all of the commands necessary to "re-install" our changes after PTF's or a new OS install, or even moving to new hardware. It's just a matter of being consistent with it for every change.

This can be accomplished by editing the CPF message file to a custom message:

CPF1107 "Password not correct for user profile"
CPF1120 "User %1 does not exist"

    To see current message values:
    DSPMSGD RANGE(CPFxxxx) MSGF(QSYS/QCPFMSG)

    To change:
    CHGMSGD MSGID(CPFxxx) MSGF(QSYS/QCPFMSG) MSG('Your text here')

The only caveat is Operating system upgrades (and possibly PTF's) will reset these messages to their default values as this file is part of the OS - you need to remember to edit. Or you can change the location of the modified file - contact support for details...
