I would like to change the default value for the SQL command DROP COLUMN from CASCADE to RESTRICT.

Hello
I would like to change the default value for the SQL command DROP COLUMN from CASCADE to RESTRICT.

As far as I know, this is not possible.

The problem is that I usually enter the DROP COLUMN command as an SQL script in the ACS.
And I often don't think about specifying RESTRICT.
And with CASCADE, the risk is too great that views will be automatically deleted without me noticing.
Because apparently there is not even any information about which views have been automatically deleted.

ALTER TABLE Tablename DROP COLUMN Fieldname

If this is already possible, it would be great if you could tell me how to do it.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this Idea at this time, so it is being closed.

It is not possible to change the actual default for DROP COLUMN from CASCADE to RESTRICT. This is the agreed upon default by the Db2 database family and has been in place for 30 years.

We considered providing a switch, such as a new QAQQINI option. Having the option set at a job or system level would cause your DROP COLUMN requests run with RESTRICT, but it would also affect every other DROP COLUMN request from within applications in jobs where the option is set. We cannot introduce a feature that could cause client applications, vendor solutions, or even operating system code to encounter an error. For this reason, we must decline your Idea.
