Tools do assist with Spatial/GIS data on DB2 for i

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

When dealing with spatial data, it is quite common to use tools and/or products that assist in the manipulation and loading of this data. Even within the DB2 family (LUW and z/OS), there is the DB2 Spatial Extender which enables the import and manipulation of spatial/geographic data. However, for DB2 for i, we do not have any tools to aid us in these activities, such as, for example, the import of a shapefile, which is so commonplace in the GIS world.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this Idea at this time, so it is being closed.

We understand the request, and agree that it would be a nice enhancement. Unfortunately, the Db2 for i team is dependent on the IBM research group to provide enhancements such as this for our Geospatial Analytics support. We have shared the request with them, but cannot predict when (or if) they will elect to implement it. For that reason we are closing this Idea now. If the research group decides to deliver this support at some time in the future, we will update this Idea to notify the IBM i community.
