Process needed to port RDi licenses to IBM Cloud

We need to provide clients a way to easily move to IBM Cloud and other clouds as well in order to retain and help transform their business. If clients have acquired RDi through eConfig, then the entitlement is tied to a serial number and cannot be ported to IBM Cloud.
We need a method or process to easily port RDi to the Cloud to enable compiling and running in the cloud.

Use Case:

Client has purchased RDi, presently compiles and runs on-premise. They want to move to the IBM Cloud for all dev/test and production. They should not have to re-purchase RDi licenses in order do this.

There is a process in place today to move clients' RDi entitlements from eConfig to PassPort Advantage. Customers should work with their partners and IBM Sellers to transfer their entitlements if necessary. Most distributors are familiar with the process.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Power Systems
    Product - IBM i
    Component - Install, Upgrade, Licensing
    Operating system - IBM i
    Source - Client

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Power Systems
    Product - IBM i
    Component - Application Development
    Operating system - IBM i
    Source - Client

Hello Michael. You are correct about ordering RDi License entitlements through AAS (e-Config). They are linked to the system serial number for the system for which they are ordered. That is the design point of all Systems Software ordered through the AAS (e-Config) channel. Clients who acquire RDi through this channel can work with their partner or IBM sellers to move their entitlements to PassPort Advantage where the entitlement is licensed to the customer number. This process has been available for a few years. The PassPort Advantage (PPA) channel attaches entitlements to a specific customer number. Then those entitlements can be used when developing code in a cloud environment.
To be clear, however, it's not black and white. RDi entitlements acquired through the e-Config channel enforce the "intent" of the entitlement which allows developers to use RDi against multiple systems. If clients have development activity on prem (on the machine for which the entitlements were acquired) and in the cloud, the RDi entitlement intent can be used in both environments. If the client has moved all of their development activity to the cloud, then to stay within the terms and conditions of the entitlement, it's best to move them to PassPort Advantage.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. Along with licensing changes for other Cloud products, RDi licenses must be improved the same way. Clients do not want to repurchase licenses for moving to Cloud.
