ACS - Check For Updates - Add from Network server directory

Problem description:
150+ lpars, 10,000's of users, no user has a profile on every system except admins. So I can't utilize the Check for Updates on ACS option configured to 1 IBM i location. It requires a login.

We need a different solution. Like a network drive location. One where everyone on the network can get at it.

Also see LUG requirement XX1679.

Use Case:

Proposed resolution:
Allow the AcsConfig.properties configuration file to contain a network server directory to be defined for the Check For Updates to use.
That server directory will not have a login required for those on the network.

We already provide network install and update options as documented in this article:
    https://developer.ibm.com/articles/i-ibmi-access-client-solutions-customization-trs/

In our next update, we will provide an option on the Edit->Preferences General tab to allow the user to select which system they would like to check for updates. If the property com.ibm.iaccess.CheckUpdateSystem has already been set, the option on the General tab will be disabled with the specified system displayed.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. Depending on how the jar file is distributed, this enhancement might be needed. When running applications, there is an expectation that applications will update automatically. IBM should meet that expectation as much as possible.

I have an even easier solution and my initial design suggestion.
On the main panel, Edit... Preferences... Put a field on there somewhere for me to enter what system to go check for updates on.
Everyone that uses ACS has to have a system connection, or the software is pointless. So let us check for updates on any system I choose.

That way the 40,000 users I have that can hit one of 18 production lpars (all being updated by PTFs now) and they can stay current on ACS.
Rather than hard wiring it to a config.properties entry I know not everyone has access to. (i have 3 config file templates. 5250, DB Users, Admins).

IBM understands this request and will consider it for a future code update, though no commitment is made or implied.
