Better behavior and error handling between Infoprint and SMTP

We've gone to great lengths to troubleshoot an email delivery issue in IBM Case TS015919455. When encountering a transient email delivery issue while using a 3rd party email relay server on the public internet (i.e. Microsoft 365), the IBM SMTP server successfully retries to send the message which failed per the settings in CHGSMTPA. And even though the retry is successful, the writer crashes with an error related to the intial failure as soon as the remainder of the print file is processed. Subsequent print files cannot be processed until the writer is restarted. Worse yet, the print file which holds the email(s) that initially failed and was successfully retried remains on the print queue in RDY status. Ergo when the writer is started up, the emails in the print file are delivered a second time.

This feels buggy instead of succesful design, and I assume this is due to the communication (or lack thereof) between IBM's Infoprint and SMTP servers.
