IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Send email with SNDSMTPEMM command with variables for the email addresses not all filled

Change this command to accept an email address with all *blanks, not as an error but as *none

Example :
SNDSMTPEMM RCP((&P1) (&P2) (&C1 *CC) (&C2 *CC)) SUBJECT(Email test) + NOTE(TEST)

With &P2 = *blanks  TCP5300 error and the email is not sent and we can't monitore this message, only the next (TCP5092)

Actually, I have 2 solutions to avoid the error :
1- To fill the variable with *blanks by the variable of an email address filled, but this address can appear a lot of times depending on the variables with blanks, also it's not clean to see the same address many times

Example with only &P1 and &C1 filled :
IF COND(&P2 = ‘ ‘) THEN(CHGVAR VAR(&P2) VALUE(&P1))
IF COND(&P2 = ‘ ‘) THEN(CHGVAR VAR(&P2) VALUE(&P1))
SNDSMTPEMM RCP((&P1) (&P2) (&C1 *CC) (&C2 *CC)) SUBJECT(‘Email test') NOTE(TEST)

So, we have 2 times the same addresses for *PRI and *CC (but not double in the sent)

2- To test all the cases between *PRI and *CC and *BCC for the RCP parameter, and for each of them, write the SNDSMTPEMM with only the variables filled

Example with only &P1 and &C1 filled :
SELECT
WHEN COND(&P2 = ' ' *and &C2 = ' ') THEN( +
SNDSMTPEMM RCP((&P1) (&C1 *CC)) SUBJECT('Email test') NOTE(TEST))
WHEN COND(&P2 = ' ' *and &C2 *ne ' ') THEN( +
SNDSMTPEMM RCP((&P1) (&C1 *CC) (&C2 *CC))
SUBJECT('Email test') NOTE(TEST))
WHEN COND(&P2 *ne ' ' *and &C2 = ' ') THEN( +
SNDSMTPEMM RCP((&P1) (&P2) (&C1 *CC))
SUBJECT('Email test') NOTE(TEST))
WHEN COND(&P2 *ne ' ' *and &C2 *ne ' ') THEN( +
SNDSMTPEMM RCP((&P1) (&P2) (&C1 *CC) (&C2
*CC)) SUBJECT('Email test') NOTE(TEST))
ENDSELECT

Use Case:

It needs a lot of lines of code to do a clean SNDSMTPEMM and above all, the email is not sent even to the right addresses if one of them is *blanks

IBM agrees with this request and is still using it as input to the planning process. At this time, it is not committed to our plan and the request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this Idea.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” LOW priority feature.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

IBM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.

Being able to specify a from address would be fine as well (now each user requires an address while it is often used to send mails from an "application address" and not a specific user).

Anyway, we've developed our own mail toolkit based on the QtmmSendMail API, but having this by default in SNDSMTPEMM would be an added value.
