IP based Printers

An API that can show IP addresses for remote output queue or printers using IP addresses.

We have several client systems that we support. Having a simple way to list those IP addresses would make supporting their systems easier for us.

Use Case:

We have a client in Pittsburgh that has an outside IT company maintaining their local network. We are frequently called with mysterious printer issues. Most of the time, it comes down to their support company adding printers to the network with IP addresses already assigned to printer queues that are not live/active prior to the new installation..

We do not intent to create a new API for this information because it can be found through other interfaces.
Please see the previous comments for APIs and other alternative interfaces to retrieve the the IP addresses.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM not implement this request. Acceptable work-arounds exist, as described in previous comments.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

For more information about CAAC, see www.common.org/caac

For more details about CAAC's role with RFEs, see http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/Blogs/i-Can/May-2017/COMMON-Americas-Advisory-Council-%28CAAC%29-and-RFEs/

For remote outques, the easist way is most likely to use the SQL sevice OUTPUT_QUEUE_INFO:
    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_74/rzajq/rzajqviewoutqinfo.htm

    For example:
    select OUTPUT_QUEUE_LIBRARY_NAME, OUTPUT_QUEUE_NAME, NUMBER_OF_WRITERS, WRITERS_TO_AUTOSTART,
    MANUFACTURER_TYPE_AND_MODEL, WORKSTATION_CUSTOMIZING_OBJECT_LIBRARY,
    WORKSTATION_CUSTOMIZING_OBJECT_NAME, NETWORK_CONNECTION_TYPE, REMOTE_SYSTEM_NAME,
    WRITER_TYPE, OUTPUT_QUEUE_STATUS, TEXT_DESCRIPTION
    from QSYS2.OUTPUT_QUEUE_INFO
    where NETWORK_CONNECTION_TYPE = '*IP';

You could also create a query on QUSRSYS/QATOCHOST -- System Supplied Host Table Physical File.

It contains the list from CFGTCP option 10 - TCP/IP host table entries

These already exist... QDCRDEVD (for devices) and QSPROUTQ (for outqueues).
