This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

From the provided PMRID, it appears you were able to get JAWS working with the Java Access Bridge. We understand your request relative to 5250 emulation. Portions of the screen can be read by JAWS, what the user is typing can be read by JAWS, but the field where the user is typing is not known. What gets read by JAWS is dependent on the 5250 data stream that comes from the server and there is nothing in that data stream that tells JAWS the name of the field. Unfortunately, this is not something our product has any control over. In order for this to work, the 5250 data stream would have to be re-architected to include that information and every screen changed to send the information. Making a 5250 display emulation session accessible to the level being requested is not something we will be able to do. The alternative would be to provide your user an application that is not dependent on a 5250 emulation session. Unfortunately, we will have to decline this request.
