The use of a generic parameter for the library name does not work when trying to restore multiple libraries from a BRMS backup. At times we need to restore hundreds of libraries but the parameter only works if the library exists. We believe this is a FLAW.

IBM Development can review case TS015071289 for further reference and documentation. As stated, this generic restore option should work and it should either be removed from the command prompt OR some commentary put of the HELP text to state that it only works if the library already exists OR, IBM should fix it.

This is not a huge change. It just needs a check to be included whereby if the library requesting to be restored DOES NOT exist, then it should be created then restored.  YES< there may be issues with owner etc.. that need to be thought out, but these could be supplied as additional parameters if this generic restore was required for a library that doesn't exist.

The BRMS team believes that the request described has been solved and is available with the June 2024 BRMS PTFs (7.4 - SJ01196, and 7.5 - SJ01197). Please reference the BRMS wiki for details on how to enable the new generic restore behavior to restore libraries that do not exist on the system: https://helpsystemswiki.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IWT/pages/2663219217/RSTLIBBRM+Generic+Library+Enhancement

This request has outlined an error so it needs to be fixed or the command help text / documentation needs to state that you cannot restore multiple libraries using generic parameter if the libraries DO NOT EXIST.

The BRMS team will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. The BRMS team will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority Idea that is important to be addressed.

Obvious usability factor, that would make restore easier.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

    We have 2 issues:

We agree generic parameter request is valid as to restoring generic libraries we think that your missed informed whether it exists or not is a valid issue.
