Make "IBM i Access Client Solutions" work like "IBM i Access for Windows"

With IBM choosing not to support IBM i Access for Windows beyond Windows 8.1, and many companies forcing upgrades to Windows 10, developers are forced to use IBM i Access Client Solutions. Therefore, IBM i Access Client Solutions should be 100% compatible with IBM i Access for Windows.

Use Case:

One flaw in IBM i Access Client Solutions is the behavior of the Alt key in display sessions. In IBM i Access for Windows, when the menu is hidden, pressing Alt brings up a pop-up screen allowing you to access the menu functions. In IBM i Access Client Solutions, pressing Alt apparently sends the focus to the unseen menu, which cannot actually be accessed at that point. Another problem in IBM i Access Client Solutions is that when using key combinations that include the Alt key (e.g. Alt->Right Arrow), after finishing the combination the focus has moved to the unseen menu, and you must press the Alt key again to return it to the display session so you can continue typing. This is extremely disruptive to the developer.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request, so it is being closed. See previous Comment about using existing keyboard mappings to get similar behavior to IBM i Access for Windows.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM not implement this request.

IBM i Access Client Solutions has the ability to map keyboard keys; using this capability you can get the prior behavior back. In addition, you can set up this keyboard mapping in a central location, available for all users.

If there are key mappings that CANNOT be configured, then those may be good candidates for an RFE.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
