ACS Copy&Paste special characters

Copy & Paste text from other Windows applications like Word, Outlook, ... often includes special "curly" quotes instead of the "straight" quotes.

When doing a Copy&Paste of these curly quotes in ACS, they're replaced by a "?" (since it can't translate the unicode to the job CCSID).

In IBM Client Access for Windows this worked fine as a translation was done from the curly quotes to straight quotes.

We therefore request an option to enable translation of curly quotes to straight quotes during Copy&Paste.

More info on the different quotes can be found at https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs/quotes.html

    With the next update, setting the following property in AcsConfig.properties will produce the requested behavior:
    com.ibm.iaccess.PC5250Compatibility=allowTransformSpecialCharsOnPaste

    See AcsConfig.properties for additional information about com.ibm.iaccess.PC5250Compatibility.

    This is planned for our April 2020 update.

    The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. This affects most every language, and was supported in iAccess for Windows -- therefore, it should be supported in ACS.

    Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

    For more information about CAAC, see www.common.org/caac

    For more details about CAAC's role with RFEs, see http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/Blogs/i-Can/May-2017/COMMON-Americas-Advisory-Council-%28CAAC%29-and-RFEs/

    IBM has received this requirement and is evaluating it. A response will be provided when evaluation is complete.

    Doing some additional tests in Unicode environments, I found out that "Enable Unicode Data Stream" is not sufficient neither for them to be displayed, "Enable DBCS in Unicode Fields" should be enabled as well (however the DDS field is defined as CCSID 13488, being UTF-16).

    The strange thing is however that only with "Enable DBCS in Unicode Fields" pasting a curly quote in the display shows up as ?, but gets stored correctly in the database ? Seems the emulator knows the character, but is unable to display it without the DBCS option enable (but what as DBCS to do with it ?)
